The analysis would concern for two different characters who are actually
included into a main case. The Marianne’s father named Orgon that was being
cheated by the second character or the antagonist character named Tartuffe. It
can be mentioned that there would be the binary opposition between the good person
and the hypocrite or bad/evil person. In the beginning of the story Orgon was regarded
as the rich person who has two children named Marianne and Damis. Marianne was
Valere’s lover and she just wanted to marry with Valere but she was forced by
her father to marry Tartuffe. Tartuffe was mentioned as a poor that made Orgon
gave him a big sympathy because of his cleverness in making religious cliché
then Tartuffe lived as part of Orgon’s family. Damis was Marianne’s brother who
lost his inheritance from his family because his father Orgon gave it all to
Tartuffe. The other conflicts were that Tartuffe loved Orgon’s wife named
Elmire who was also Marianne and Damis’ mother but unfortunately Orgon disbelieve
toward everyone if they told everything about Tartuffe’s hipocrisy. From this
story, the binary oppositions are between Orgon who is a good one and Tartuffe
who is proved as dislike person. Tartuffe is also a dishonest peson who loves
Elmire and hides it from Orgon.
Beside Orgon himself is very generous man who gives everything to Tartuffe
but in another side Orgon is a honest and pure person who is easily cheated by
Tartuffe’s religion cliché’s. Tartuffe in another aspect is a clever man who
can use his negative cleverness to cheat and take Orgon’s wealth. Tartuffe was
a lucky person in the beginning of the story that he was liked by Madamme
Pernelle who is Orgon’s mother. Being liked by Madame Pernelle was a good
support for Tartuffe to get a protection to live with Orgon’s family because in
the Orgon’s family Tartuffe was always talked as a hypocrite and bad person
that using Orgon. In the other case of Orgon, he is actually pure person and more
religious than Tartuffe, it is proved when he really trusts everything that has
done by Tratuffe and having his endearment to Tartuffe. Orgon is such a subjective
person because in the story he neglected every advice fom his brother Cleante
who is Elmire’s brother and also Orgon always denies every advice from his maid
Dorine. Orgon has a positive thinking only with Tartuffe because of his
religious spirit, but in fact it will leads to the danger situation for Orgon’s
family.
In the other part of the story, when Orgon heard secretly Tratuffe’s love
statement toward his wife Elimire Orgon suddenly become sober and aware that
Tartuffe was not good person as he thought before. Then, Orgon became dislikes
to Tratuffe, but Tartuffe had almost finished with all his strategy to get the
whole Orgon’s wealth and at the end he claimed the wealth and went to send
Orgon to the jail. Orgon after he all knew the real of Tartuffe, he made a
strategy to avoid tartuffe from the house and take back what he has already
given to Tartuffe. Orgon is a submissive person, he got many advice from the
family member like Cleante and Valere to avoid from Tartuffe next evil plan. Fortunately,
it later then was failed because the King had ordered the officers to prisoning
back Tartuffe and give back what Tartuffe has taken from Orgon. In this story,
we can conclude that tartuffe is as fool because of his carelessness. He was a fugitive
and he was wrong reporting Orgon to the King for hs own fault. After Tartuffe
was arrested by the officers, Orgon decided to fulfill his promise to his
daughter Marianne to make Valere (Marianne’s boyfriend) as a husband and a
wife. Orgon was a wise person compared to Tartuffe who is careless.
In addition, the binary opposition of good and bad between Orgon character
and Tartuffe character can be concluded that it will be bring a consequent,
Orgon was safe and his wealth has given back, whereas Tartuffe was imprisoned in
the jail as the end of his bad deeds. Thus, the binary opposition of the good
person and bad person as it is in the table below.

the Tartuffe is a portrayal of a bad person and Orgon as a good person which in
this case the good one is always a winner. The bad one in the end will find his
miserable life after what he did in the first. Tartuffe will never get what he
desires when he does those bad deeds and his bad way.
